Trump’s Gaza Plan Sparks Outrage Amid Calls for Palestinian Sovereignty

Donald Trump’s proposal to place Gaza under U.S. control and transform it into the "Côte d'Azur of the Middle East" has provoked strong international criticism. While addressing the media alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump suggested an American-led reconstruction of Gaza, despite ongoing Israeli bombardment. Palestinian officials condemned his remarks as aligning with far-right Israeli policies aimed at displacing Palestinians.

China rejected any forced transfer of Gaza’s population, emphasising Palestinian self-governance as essential for post-war stability. Similarly, Turkey deemed Trump’s proposal “unacceptable,” reinforcing international concerns about forced displacement. France also warned that such statements threaten regional stability and the peace process.

Trump’s controversial stance came amid ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Palestinian factions. While his administration’s envoy claimed Gaza would be “uninhabitable for years,” Palestinians have returned in large numbers, determined to rebuild despite the devastation. Trump’s suggestion to “clear out” Gaza sparked further outrage, with Egyptian and Jordanian leaders firmly opposing any forced displacement plans.

Palestinians insist they will not abandon their homeland, vowing to resist any attempts at forced exile. As ceasefire discussions continue, international pressure mounts for a just resolution that respects Palestinian sovereignty rather than imposing external control.
