HRW Denounces Trump’s Gaza Plan as a Heinous Crime Against Palestinians

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has condemned the forced displacement of Palestinians as a “heinous moral crime,” following former U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial remarks regarding Gaza.

Omar Shakir, HRW’s director for Palestine, described the proposal as a flagrant violation of human rights, criticising Trump’s call for Egypt and Jordan to receive Palestinians and for the U.S. to assume control over Gaza.

During a press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump stated, “Palestinians have no alternative but to leave Gaza,” asserting that the United States “will take control of and own Gaza.”

In response, HRW accused Washington of complicity in Israel’s ongoing atrocities, highlighting its continued military aid to the Israeli occupation. The organisation stressed that U.S. support fuels the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, where over 159,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured since October 2023, with thousands still missing beneath the rubble.

HRW has repeatedly warned that Israel’s relentless assault on Gaza constitutes genocide, facilitated by unwavering American backing. Shakir emphasised that Trump’s rhetoric not only disregards human dignity but also emboldens further war crimes.

Global human rights groups have joined HRW in condemning Trump’s statements, warning that his proposed forced displacement of Palestinians could further destabilise the region. Amid the worsening crisis, calls are mounting for international accountability and urgent action to safeguard Palestinian lives.
