Gaza's Wounded: Thousands Waiting for Treatment Abroad

Despite the ceasefire, the suffering of the wounded in Gaza continues as the Israeli occupation imposes strict restrictions on their ability to seek treatment abroad. Thousands are deprived of the chance to complete their medical care, facing an uncertain future in a healthcare system that has collapsed due to destruction and lack of resources.

Medical staff in Gaza are doing their best to save lives, but the severity of the injuries, requiring advanced techniques and surgeries, makes treatment inside the sector nearly impossible. Many injured people urgently need operations abroad, particularly cosmetic surgeries to hide severe scars, but Gaza lacks the necessary equipment and medical supplies due to the blockade.

Among those waiting to travel for treatment is 13-year-old Layan Al-Hamadeen, who suffered severe burns when an explosion set her body on fire after an Israeli attack. Despite efforts from doctors in Gaza, she needs more advanced care.

Similarly, 4-year-old Mohammad Eid suffers from severe burns and facial deformities after an attack on his family’s shelter, but he too is unable to access life-saving treatment due to the restrictions.

The wounds of many in Gaza include severe bone and internal injuries, requiring complex surgeries that cannot be performed in the strip. With the crossings closed, their suffering turns into a slow death sentence as they await a chance to leave for proper treatment before it’s too late.
