Internal Opposition in Netanyahu's Government to Phase Two of Gaza Truce Talks

Uncertainty looms over the fate of the Gaza ceasefire negotiations as key figures in Netanyahu’s government oppose the second phase of talks with Hamas.

Israeli Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli declared his opposition, calling it “extremely dangerous,” as it would lead to the release of prisoners and the evacuation of the Philadelphi Corridor. He insisted that Israel must resume combat and take full control of Gaza.

Similarly, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich rejected further negotiations, vowing that the government will not surrender to Hamas and will continue fighting until its complete destruction.

The Security Cabinet is set to convene on Tuesday to discuss the issue amid strong opposition from several ministers.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu highlighted his “major achievements” during his U.S. visit, emphasizing that he and Donald Trump agreed on eradicating Hamas, securing Israel, and excluding the Palestinian Authority from Gaza’s future governance.
