The Palestinian Journalists' Protection Centre (PJPS) has called for the immediate release of Palestinian journalists detained in Israeli prisons and demanded clarity on the fate of those who have been forcibly disappeared. The centre stressed that many journalists have been subjected to severe violations.
During the ongoing war on Gaza, Israeli forces have arrested dozens of Palestinian journalists, with the fate of many still unknown. Among them is journalist Amr Abu Rida, whose family remains in the dark about his whereabouts and condition despite efforts to seek information from prisoner advocacy groups and the International Red Cross.
The centre reported that detained journalists face grave abuses, including arbitrary detention, torture, medical neglect, and imprisonment without trial. It also condemned the use of emergency laws and military courts to criminalise journalistic work, describing it as a flagrant violation of international law and human rights.
The PJPS urged the international community to take immediate action to hold Israel accountable for these violations and to secure the release of Palestinian journalists unjustly imprisoned.
