Three Municipalities in Gaza Declare Areas as “Disaster Zones” Amid Unprecedented Destruction

On Monday morning, the municipalities of Al-Mughraqa, Al-Zahraa, and Wadi Gaza officially declared their territories as "disaster zones" in urgent need of humanitarian aid and reconstruction. In a joint statement, the local authorities reported that the Israeli occupation had rendered these areas uninhabitable, causing widespread devastation to every aspect of life. They estimated that the total losses within their jurisdiction amount to approximately one billion dollars.

The destruction caused by the occupation has left tens of thousands of Palestinians homeless, with nearly 13,200 housing units destroyed. Additionally, the occupation has wiped out vital resources, including 24 water wells and reservoirs, and devastated the agricultural sector, leaving farms, livestock, and crops in ruins. The destruction of essential infrastructure has led to a collapse in water, sanitation, power, and communication systems, further exacerbating the suffering of the displaced population.

The municipalities are calling on international organizations to send immediate aid, including heavy machinery, power generators, and temporary housing units, to help rebuild essential services. They also urged media and human rights organizations to document the scale of the destruction and hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its actions. The municipalities have stressed the importance of involving the local community in recovery efforts to ensure that aid meets the urgent needs of the affected population.
