The municipality of Gaza City has issued a dire warning as the city teeters on the brink of an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. Spokesman Husni Muhanna described the situation as "catastrophic by all measures," with essential services disrupted and daily life rendered nearly impossible.
More than 70% of the city's infrastructure has been obliterated, leaving water and sewage networks in ruins, roads impassable, and electricity nonexistent. Israeli forces have deliberately destroyed 133 municipal vehicles—80% of the operational fleet—while preventing the entry of heavy equipment, severely hampering efforts to clear debris and restore movement. The collapse of sewage systems and waste accumulation further compound the crisis, posing grave health risks.
Despite these dire conditions, municipal teams are struggling to maintain the most basic services with dwindling resources. The destruction of 63 water wells, six wastewater pumping stations, and over 285,000 meters of water and sewage pipelines has left the population in extreme distress.
Gaza’s municipality is making an urgent appeal to international and humanitarian
organisations to intervene immediately, facilitate the entry of essential equipment, fuel, and energy, and prevent an impending catastrophe for the city’s beleaguered residents.
