UNRWA: Israel’s Media Ban in Gaza Silences the Truth

As the war on Gaza deepens, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has denounced Israel’s ongoing refusal to allow international journalists into the besieged Strip, calling it a deliberate attempt to suppress the truth and isolate the world from the reality on the ground.

Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, stated that this unprecedented media blackout, now stretching over eight months, has no parallel in modern conflicts. He warned that the exclusion of international media not only denies the world access to independent reporting but also creates fertile ground for misinformation, distortion, and the dehumanisation of Palestinians.

“This is not just a denial of access,” Lazzarini said. “It is a denial of truth.” While international journalists remain barred, Palestinian reporters continue to risk their lives daily, documenting the devastation and resilience of their people under constant bombardment. Many have paid with their lives. UNRWA is calling for the immediate lifting of the ban and for full access to independent journalists, to ensure the world sees Gaza through unfiltered eyes. In a war waged not only with weapons but with silence, truth has become a casualty, and those who seek it, a target.
