The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) condemned, on Wednesday, the US sanctions imposed on Turkey due to its possession of the Russian "S-400" air defense system, declaring its solidarity with the Turkish Republic, the president, the government and the people.

The head of the Movement’s Arab and Islamic Relations Office, Izzat al-Rishq, confirmed, in a statement to SAFA, “Turkey has a right to possess military force to face the dangers threatening it and protect its national security.”

The statement stated that the US administration’s sanctions policy against Arab and Islamic countries will not succeed in discouraging them from obtaining the foundations of their steadfastness and their military capabilities.

It also pointed out that the American administration practices double standards when it comes to the Israeli occupation, which it supports with money and weapons to carry out its terrorism and continue its aggression and crimes against the Palestinian people, their land and their sanctities.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the sanctions include a ban on all US export licenses and permits granted to the Turkish Defense Procurement Agency.

Pompeo added that Washington clarified to Turkey that the purchase of the "S-400" system would threaten the security of US military technology and its personnel.
