The Arab League affirmed, on Wednesday, that 2020 year is the most violating year against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
A report issued by the Palestinian sector and Arab territories of the League, which included the most prominent Israeli violations against the prisoners during 2020, said that the Israeli authorities used deliberate medical negligence against the prisoners, and ignored the recommendations of international organizations to release them for fear of an outbreak of the Corona virus, in light of overcrowding in prisons.
Israel also continues its policy of administrative detention without a charge, committing further violations of the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions, and international humanitarian law with regard to prisoners' rights.
The report pointed out that the number of prisoners reached about 4,400 during the year, including 38 female prisoners, 170 children, 500 administrative detainees, and 1,300 sick cases, of whom 80 were in need for urgent medical examinations, in addition to 17 prisoners who were permanently in prison clinics, and all violations are being practiced against them.
Meanwhile, the report stated that the current year witnessed an increase in the number of prisoners' martyrs inside Israeli detentions, as 4 prisoners were martyred as a result of deliberate medical negligence against them, and all those who entered the Israeli prisons were subjected to all forms of psychological and physical torture, violating the basic principles for the treatment of prisoners adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979 and 1990, respectively, which affirmed the protection of prisoners' health and medical care for people detained in apparent disregard for the lives of prisoners, which led to the spread of the Coronavirus among them, and the infection of 137 prisoners, without taking the necessary protection and preventive measures to overcome the virus.
The report noted that the Israeli forces arrested nearly 800 children during the current year, especially in Jerusalem, including those under the age of 16, and their number is about 170 children in the Israeli prison, that violate all international law that guarantee their protection, as Israel did not take into account. The age of children and treating them like adults, also deprived them of seeing their families and prevented them from legal protection.
The report added that the Israeli authorities continued to violate Palestinian women's rights during the current year, as 38 Palestinian women were detained in its prisons, and various types of physical and psychological torture were practiced against them, such as medical negligence, imposing fines, isolation and force, detention in places not befitting them, the presence of cameras and violation of privacy.
It's necessary to submit the international recommendations represented by the European Union during the last European Palestinian meeting held on December 7, which stressed the need to stop Israeli violations against Palestinians, especially violations against children, as well as recommendations issued by the 105th session of the Conference of Supervisors of Palestine Affairs, which stressed the need to support the issue of prisoners through the Arab Fund for Palestinian and Arab Prisoners and Detainees in the Israeli prisons.
