In the words of the UN’s top humanitarian official in Palestine, what is unfolding in Gaza is not a tragedy, it is a deliberate extermination. Jonathan Whittall, head of OCHA in the occupied Palestinian territory, declared this week that the conditions imposed on civilians are “designed to kill.”
This is not just a siege; it is a war on life itself. With starvation wielded as a weapon, entire neighbourhoods levelled, and over two million people forcibly displaced, Palestinians in Gaza are not simply dying, they are being erased. “This is a death sentence for people who are simply trying to survive,” Whittall said.
Since 7 October 2023, Gaza has endured an unrelenting campaign of destruction. Over 55,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed. Tens of thousands more lie injured, and many remain buried beneath the rubble. Despite international rulings and desperate pleas, the bombing has not stopped. Gaza’s cries continue to echo into a world that too often chooses silence.
