Following the Israeli bombing of the Latin Monastery Church in Gaza this morning, Palestinian citizen Waddah Abu Jameh took to social media to express his outrage and sorrow, calling attention to what he describes as a systematic campaign of religious and ethnic cleansing.
On his Facebook page, Abu Jameh wrote: “After Israel’s bombing of the Latin Monastery Church in Gaza this morning, and in light of the promises to protect minorities and religious sects... it has become important to recall an internal term often repeated by many Israeli officials both inside and outside the Knesset: ‘Christian cleansing from the Holy Land.’”
This expression, he noted, reflects a deeply entrenched mentality shaped by ethnic, religious, and political exclusion. He denounced the West’s obsession with "so-called freedoms, technology, justice, and false equality," which he said only serve to mask the harsh reality endured by Palestinians.
Abu Jameh also drew attention to previous legislative efforts by members of the Israeli Knesset to criminalise Christian proselytising, a bill that, if passed, would have made even a casual faith-based conversation with a Jewish person grounds for imprisonment or exile.
His post served as a painful reminder that, beyond the physical devastation of Gaza’s landmarks, a cultural and spiritual erasure is also underway. For many Palestinians, the targeting of religious sites is not just a military action, it is part of a broader campaign to uproot identities, silence diversity, and rewrite the narrative of the Holy Land.
