A Bleak Dawn in Gaza: How Dozens of Thousands of Babies Are Being Starved

In Gaza, the Government Media Office has issued an urgent plea: over 40,000 infants under the age of one are facing a “silent crime of genocide” as Israel’s blockade of baby formula continues into its 150th day. According to officials in Gaza, the prolonged denial of access to this essential nourishment is placing the most vulnerable children at imminent risk of slow, agonising death.

Gazans describe this withholding of infant formula as a deliberate act of collective punishment. The Government Media Office calls for immediate and unrestricted opening of all crossings so that formula and humanitarian aid can enter without delay. They hold Israel and any countries supporting or enforcing the blockade, as well as the wider international community, fully responsible for each lost life.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Health reports that starvation and severe malnutrition have claimed 147 lives, including 88 children. The World Food Programme has sounded the alarm that one‑third of Gaza’s residents have endured days without a single meal. These figures reflect a dire and escalating crisis.
