European Union Commissioner Hadja Lahbib has called on Israel to immediately end what she described as a policy of starvation in Gaza and to facilitate the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid.
In a statement on X, Lahbib condemned the worsening crisis in the besieged enclave as “horrific,” urging Israel to stop weaponising hunger against civilians. “I am shocked by the extent of the suffering civilians are enduring,” she wrote, appealing for urgent action to ensure aid reaches those most in need.
Her remarks come as Gaza faces one of its worst humanitarian disasters, with famine tightening its grip on over two million residents trapped under siege. Lahbib’s call reflects growing pressure on Israel from within Europe to uphold basic humanitarian principles and allow lifesaving supplies into the Strip.
