In Tunis, organisers have announced preparations for the Global Sumoud Fleet, led by the Tunisian-based Maghreb Convoy, in a coordinated international effort to challenge Israel’s blockade on Gaza. The initiative brings together multiple solidarity networks, including veterans of the Freedom Flotilla, the Global Campaign to Return to Gaza, the Maghreb Sumoud Fleet, and Southeast Asia’s Sumoud Nusantara coalition.
The mission, set to launch at the end of August and early September, will see dozens of vessels depart from ports across Europe and Africa, with Tunisia and Spain confirmed as primary departure points. Carrying symbolic humanitarian aid, the fleet is designed to defy the blockade and highlight the dire humanitarian crisis facing Gaza.
Organisers emphasise three goals: breaking the siege, rallying international civil society, and amplifying global awareness of the ongoing atrocities against Palestinians. Calls for solidarity are growing, as activists urge individuals, organisations, and movements worldwide to join the initiative and stand with Gaza in its darkest hour.
