Al-Shifa Hospital has confirmed that warplanes of the Israeli occupation targeted a makeshift media tent outside its main gate on Sunday, assassinating Al Jazeera journalists Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qureiqa, along with two cameramen. Witnesses described it as a deliberate attack on the press.
The Israeli occupation army later confirmed al-Sharif was the intended target, accusing him of "Hamas affiliation", a claim Al Jazeera strongly rejected as part of a pattern of unfounded allegations aimed at justifying the assassination of journalists.
According to press freedom monitors, the Israeli occupation has now assassinated at least 265 journalists and media workers since the start of the war, the vast majority of them Palestinian. Rights groups say this unprecedented toll reflects a systematic campaign to silence eyewitnesses to the war’s devastation in Gaza.
