The Government Media Office has confirmed that Israeli occupation warplanes carried out a direct strike on a journalists’ tent near Al-Shifa Hospital on Sunday, assassinating five Palestinian journalists and injuring several others.
Those martyred include Al Jazeera correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqa, along with photojournalists Ibrahim Zahir and Mo’men Alouwa, and assistant photojournalist Mohammed Noufal. Witnesses described the attack as a deliberate targeting of the press.
With this massacre, the number of journalists assassinated by the Israeli occupation in Gaza since the start of the ongoing genocide has risen to 237. Rights groups say the killings form part of a systematic campaign to silence eyewitnesses, erase evidence of war crimes, and prevent documentation of atrocities.
The Government Media Office holds the Israeli occupation, the United States administration, and all states complicit in the genocide fully responsible, and has urged international journalist unions and rights bodies to take urgent action to protect Palestinian media workers and hold those responsible to account.
