More than 55,000 pregnant women in Gaza are enduring life-threatening conditions as hunger, displacement and the collapse of healthcare deepen their suffering. Health officials warn that severe malnutrition has left mothers dangerously anaemic, exposing them to fatal bleeding during childbirth, while their unborn children face the risk of congenital defects due to widespread folic acid deficiency.
Hospitals lie in ruins, forcing expectant mothers into overcrowded shelters and makeshift camps where they lack even the most basic prenatal care. “Children in Gaza are being born into empty wombs,” said Gaza’s health ministry, describing a generation trapped by hunger and fear.
Since Israel sealed all crossings in March, aid convoys remain stranded at the borders while famine and disease tighten their grip. Over 61,000 Palestinians have been killed since October, while hundreds of thousands more are displaced, starved and left without medical support. Among the dead are more than a hundred children who perished solely from hunger.
The deliberate deprivation of food and medicine has turned pregnancy itself into a battlefield, leaving women and their babies to pay the price of a blockade that continues to deny them the most basic right to life.
