Gaza’s Ministry of Interior has warned that Israel’s planned invasion of Gaza City would amount to a “death sentence” and forced displacement for more than 1.2 million Palestinians who remain in the city, including hundreds of thousands already uprooted from other parts of the Strip.
In a statement issued Thursday, the Ministry described the plan as a “premeditated war crime” and appealed to the international community to act urgently to prevent another humanitarian disaster. It noted that the offensive comes against the backdrop of relentless bombardment, an ongoing blockade, and mass displacement that have already left Gaza “with no safe refuge for civilians.”
The Ministry highlighted recent Israeli attacks on Al-Zaytoun and Al-Sabra neighbourhoods, along with earlier raids on Shuja’iyya, Al-Tuffah, and Al-Daraj, describing them as part of a “systematic policy of destruction.” It cautioned that Gaza City could soon face devastation comparable to Rafah, Khan Younis, and northern Gaza, which have been reduced to rubble under Israeli firepower.
It further condemned the silence of the international community, warning that such inaction has emboldened Israel to escalate its campaign. The Ministry urged the United Nations and humanitarian bodies worldwide to intervene immediately to protect civilians and stop further mass displacement.
