Journalists Support Committee yesterday condemned the continued Israeli campaign of arrests against journalists and the extending and delaying of their trial with the aim of holding them for the longest period in the prisons, noting that the number of Palestinian journalists held in Israeli prisons has risen to 26.

The Committee said in a statement, a copy of which obtained by Safa, that the Israeli court delayed the trial of the imprisoned photojournalist Tamer Barghouti, from the town of Kober in Ramallah, for the third time to January 18, 2021.
 
It pointed out that the Israeli forces arrested Barghouti on 10 December in front of Ofer prison during his coverage and professional work.

Moreover, it said that on 22 December, the Israeli court extended the detention of Tariq Abu Zaid from Nablus, for an additional 47 days, after he was brought before the "Salem" military court, which postponed his trial until 2/7/2021.

The head of the Committee Saleh Al-Masry confirmed that the Israeli authorities intentionally arrest journalists and extend their trials in an attempt to block the truth from the world and hide the Israeli crimes committed against the Palestinian people.

Al-Masry said that the Israeli forces have continued their violations against Palestinian journalists and media, despite international laws and charters that guarantee the protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression.

He called on all international press institutions to put pressure on Israel to stop its systematic aggression against Palestinian journalists.
