Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has openly accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza with the support of American military aid, breaking ranks with most of her party.

In a statement shared on her official X account, Greene urged Americans to place themselves in the shoes of Gaza’s civilians, who have endured over 22 months of bombardment. She emphasised that many of the victims are children and ordinary people with no connection to the fighting, yet they continue to pay the heaviest price.

Greene pointed to the $3.8 billion Washington provides annually to Israel, arguing that US taxpayers are being forced to bankroll atrocities abroad. “I will not pay for genocide in a foreign land against a foreign people,” she declared, vowing not to remain silent.

Her intervention marks a significant rupture within Republican ranks, as she became the first from her party to describe Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide, a word long avoided in official political discourse, despite the mounting civilian death toll.
