Gaza’s Rising Star Allam Al-Amour Killed While Seeking Food Amid Blockade

Allam Al-Amour, a young Palestinian international runner, has been killed by gunfire while attempting to collect a food parcel in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The Palestinian Athletics Federation confirmed his death, mourning the loss of a talented athlete whose promise on the track was cut short by the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Al-Amour, a bronze medalist in the youth 5,000-metre race at the West Asian Championship, was reportedly shot near relief distribution points. Officials described his death as a tragic consequence of the systematic starvation imposed on Gaza’s population, noting that he “never expected his final race to be a desperate struggle for survival rather than a competition of excellence.”

The loss of Al-Amour is part of a broader toll on Palestinian sports. The head of the Palestinian Football Association, Jibril Rajoub, has reported that 774 figures from the sports and scouting community, players, coaches, scouts, and officials, have been killed since the start of the war, alongside the destruction of nearly 300 sports facilities across Gaza and the West Bank.

Medical sources also confirmed that four other Palestinians waiting for aid in Khan Younis were killed on the same day, underlining the deadly consequences of the blockade and the ongoing violence. Al-Amour’s death has become a symbol of the dangers faced daily by ordinary Gazans striving to survive amid extreme deprivation and military assault.
