UN Chief Demands Israel Uphold Duties in Gaza, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has issued a stark warning to Israel, urging it to respect its responsibilities as the occupying power in Gaza. He stressed the immediate need for expanded humanitarian access to ensure the delivery of essential supplies, including food, water, and medicine, while protecting civilians and vital infrastructure.

Guterres condemned actions that threaten the survival of the population, highlighting the urgent humanitarian crisis across the enclave. He called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian corridors, and the prompt, unconditional release of all prisoners.

“The situation is urgent and unacceptable,” Guterres said. “No more excuses. No more obstacles. No more lies.” The UN chief’s statement underscores mounting international concern over the ongoing devastation in Gaza and the need for decisive action to alleviate the suffering of its residents.
