Egyptian “Sumud Flotilla” Joins Global Initiative to Break Gaza Siege

In a founding statement issued last night, fifteen Egyptian political parties, professional unions, and civil society organisations officially declared their participation in the Global Sumud Flotilla. This grassroots initiative seeks to break the Israeli occupation’s blockade on Gaza and to resist the ongoing displacement and genocidal war against the Palestinian people.

The statement, signed by parties including Al-Karama, Al-Dostour, Bread and Freedom, and a coalition of professional syndicates, affirmed that Egyptian involvement in the flotilla represents “a national and moral duty that cannot be delayed”. It further called on the Egyptian authorities to facilitate all procedures necessary for the civilian convoy to sail from Egypt.

The signatories confirmed their reliance on in-kind donations due to legal constraints and opened the door for participation from captains, engineers, mechanics, sailors, and all volunteers wishing to join. A registration form will be made available soon. The Egyptian announcement follows similar mobilisations in Europe and Tunisia as part of the wider Sumud Convoys initiative calling for an end to the siege and justice for Gaza.
