Israeli Military Chief Warns Ground Offensive in Gaza Will Not Defeat Hamas

Israel’s Chief of Staff has reportedly told political leaders that Hamas cannot be defeated through military action or political measures, even if Israeli forces succeed in occupying Gaza City. He warned that the planned ground offensive is unlikely to achieve a decisive victory and highlighted the risks posed to both soldiers and hostages. Gaza’s aid distribution system was described as “failing,” further complicating the humanitarian situation.

The military chief expressed deep concern over the absence of a clear post-war plan, noting uncertainty about governance and the future of Gaza under occupation. He cautioned that battlefield gains could quickly dissipate without a coherent political strategy, a warning seemingly overlooked as government leaders pressed ahead with the offensive. The escalation has triggered alarm and protests within Israeli society, particularly from families of captives held by Hamas.

Since the onset of the genocide in October 2023, over 64,800 Palestinians have been killed and more than 164,000 injured, the majority women and children. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, with famine adding to the humanitarian catastrophe that has claimed over 400 lives, including 145 children.
