Gaza’s Health System on the Brink as Genocide Deepens Humanitarian Catastrophe

Gaza’s medical infrastructure is teetering on collapse as hospitals face severe fuel shortages and critical shortages of life‑saving supplies, medical professionals warn. The crisis comes amid an intensification of Israel’s ongoing genocide, which has systematically targeted civilian infrastructure while maintaining a blockade that denies essential aid.

Health officials report that emergency care is on the brink of failure, with hospitals running on limited backup generators and lacking vital medication, surgical materials, and blood supplies. Many patients with treatable conditions are dying for want of care, while famine levels of malnutrition are now affecting children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those wounded in the latest operations.

For Gaza’s medical leaders, the collapse of health services is not incidental but a direct consequence of deliberate military policy. The repeated destruction of health facilities, coupled with the denial of fuel and medical supplies, constitutes an attack on civilian life. Such actions, they say, violate international law and amount to a calculated strategy of killing by deprivation.

Since August 11, 2025, more than 2,400 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 7,700 wounded, the majority civilians, as residential areas are reduced to rubble. Observers describe these attacks as part of a broader policy designed to drive mass displacement and erase communities, a policy that bears the hallmarks of crimes against humanity.

The ongoing blockade and obstruction of humanitarian aid have compounded suffering, leaving Gaza isolated and under siege. Health leaders are calling on the international community to act urgently to halt the genocide, open safe humanitarian corridors, and guarantee impartial aid delivery to protect civilian lives.
