Hundreds of Bosnians gathered in Sarajevo on Sunday, uniting their voices with those calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza and the release of the detained Freedom Flotilla activists. The rally began at the historic Sebilj Fountain in Baščaršija, where demonstrators raised Palestinian flags and chanted for justice and freedom.
Protesters condemned Israel’s attack on the flotilla in international waters and denounced the continued blockade of Gaza, calling it an affront to humanity. “Stop the Genocide” and “Freedom for Gaza” were among the slogans carried through Ferhadija Street, where the sound of drums and chants filled the air, echoing decades of solidarity between Bosnia and Palestine.
The demonstration ended in front of the Sacred Heart Cathedral with a moving performance symbolising the plight of Palestinian prisoners. Participants, their mouths gagged and hands bound, stood silently to represent those silenced by occupation and imprisonment. The march, steeped in emotion and defiance, reflected Sarajevo’s enduring memory of its own siege, and its empathy for a people still trapped under one.
