Iran Calls for Accountability Beyond Gaza Ceasefire

Iran has stressed that ending the genocidal war in Gaza is only the first step, and true justice requires holding Israel accountable for crimes committed during the assault. Fatemeh Mohajerani, spokesperson for the Iranian government, reaffirmed Tehran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, emphasising the right to resist occupation and defend dignity. She highlighted that any ceasefire must be accompanied by a full withdrawal of Israeli forces, unhindered humanitarian access, and the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Mohajerani underscored that the Palestinian resistance is a legitimate part of reclaiming Palestinian rights and that halting the ongoing atrocities in Gaza should not signal the end of the struggle. She called on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities by pursuing those responsible for war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity before international tribunals, asserting that accountability is essential to prevent future atrocities.

The Iranian foreign ministry also issued a statement paying tribute to the “martyrs of the Resistance” and reiterated the global duty to ensure Israel does not violate its commitments. The ministry urged vigilance against what it described as Israel’s deceit and bad faith, stressing that the cessation of the genocide does not absolve governments and international institutions from their obligation to deliver justice.
