A group of forty-six Democratic senators has called on President Donald Trump to take concrete action to safeguard the ceasefire in Gaza and prevent further expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The lawmakers expressed deep concern that any continued encroachment or annexation would destroy what remains of the prospect for peace in the region.
In their letter, the senators stressed that the fragile ceasefire must be preserved to allow humanitarian aid to reach Gaza’s devastated population. They warned that renewed violence would not only deepen the suffering of civilians already enduring the aftermath of a genocidal war but also undermine U.S. credibility and influence in the Middle East. The appeal underscores growing unease in Washington over the long-term implications of continued occupation and settlement activity, which many see as incompatible with a sustainable peace.
The senators reaffirmed their support for a two-state vision, describing it as essential to regional stability and to America’s broader strategic interests. They urged the White House to use its leverage to ensure compliance with international law and to support genuine steps towards justice and lasting security for all people living between the river and the sea.
