A two-month-old infant has died in Gaza City after exposure to extreme cold, becoming the second baby to perish within hours as harsh winter conditions continue to take a lethal toll.
The child, Mohammed Wissam Abu Harbeed, succumbed overnight in makeshift displacement shelters where heating and protection are almost nonexistent. Just the day before, a seven-day-old newborn died in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah under similar circumstances, illustrating the escalating humanitarian crisis faced by families forced to live without adequate shelter.
Since the onset of winter, at least 19 Palestinians have lost their lives to freezing conditions and collapsing structures. The combination of destroyed housing, insufficient protection, and relentless cold has created an environment where survival itself is a daily struggle.
