Israeli Operations Expand North of Jerusalem as Shops Face Demolition

Israeli forces intensified operations on Tuesday in areas north of occupied Jerusalem, targeting commercial zones near the Qalandiya refugee camp and ordering shop owners to vacate ahead of planned demolitions. The measures come as part of an expanding campaign that has continued for a second consecutive day across several neighbourhoods.

Residents reported that forces moved through the Airport Road area near Qalandiya, issuing notices to multiple businesses and sealing off key routes. Movement in and out of the area was heavily restricted, disrupting daily life for workers, students and teachers. Additional incursions were reported in nearby residential districts, where roads were closed entirely during the operations.

Local authorities say the actions form part of a broader effort to consolidate control around Jerusalem, citing repeated closures and demolitions along strategic corridors near the separation barrier. Officials argue that recent claims by Israeli authorities regarding gaps in the barrier’s route are being used to justify increased pressure on surrounding Palestinian communities.

Demolitions are reportedly concentrated on land adjacent to the Qalandiya Training Centre, property that is formally registered under Jordanian state ownership. Observers warn that the escalation reflects long-standing policies aimed at weakening the economic and social foundations of Palestinian areas encircling Jerusalem, a pattern that has intensified during the ongoing genocidal war.
