Mass Arrest Campaign Sees Thousands of Palestinians Detained in the West Bank

A sharp escalation in arrest raids has been reported across the occupied West Bank since the beginning of 2026, with Palestinian monitoring groups documenting more than 2,000 detentions in military operations targeting cities, towns and refugee camps. The figures, released by the Palestinian information centre Mu'ta Information Centre, indicate an intensifying campaign of raids carried out by Israeli occupation forces across the territory.

According to the data, the number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons has risen by around 2.15 per cent in recent months, bringing the total prison population to more than 9,500 prisoners. Among them are 73 women and roughly 350 children. Many of the minors are reportedly being held in facilities such as Megiddo Prison and Ofer Prison, both widely known for holding Palestinian detainees from the occupied territories.

A significant portion of those detained are held without formal charges. Palestinian groups say the number of prisoners placed under administrative detention, detention without charge or trial, has reached 3,442 people, accounting for about 36 per cent of the total prison population. In addition, 1,249 detainees are classified by Israeli authorities as “unlawful combatants”, a designation that rights organisations argue allows prolonged detention under restrictive legal procedures.

Palestinian organisations warn that conditions inside Israeli detention facilities remain deeply concerning. Prisoners are said to face severe limitations on food, medical care and access to basic rights, with families often struggling to obtain information about their relatives’ circumstances.

Human rights advocates are urging international organisations to address the growing number of arrests and to press Israeli authorities to guarantee the protection of Palestinian prisoners. Observers say the expanding detention campaign forms part of broader pressures faced by Palestinian communities during the ongoing genocidal war affecting Palestinians across the region.
