Israel reduces sentence of a leading Hamas member

The Israeli Court issued a decision to reduce the period of the administrative detention issued against prisoner Jamal al-Tawil, a leader in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

The Palestinian Prisoners Media Office said that the Israeli Supreme Court decided to reduce the period of his administrative detention from six months to two months, which was the ruling issued against him several days ago. In addition, the court decided to give him a judgment to release him after the current extension expires.

Al-Taweel was arrested on 9 July 2020, only 20 days before the release of his detained daughter, Bushra al-Tawil, who was re-arrested on 11 August 2020 and transferred into administrative detention.

Reportedly, al-Tawil was arrested several times and he spent more than 15 years in the Israeli prisons as most of which were in administrative detention.
