Verses from Gaza: A Literary Evening of Memory and Resistance in Clisson

In Clisson, an evening dedicated to poetry and reflection on Gaza is set to take place on 10 April. Organised by the Association France Palestine Solidarité local branch, the event will feature readings and discussion led by Malika Berak, whose recent work centres on the human realities emerging from the ongoing genocidal war.

Held at the Cercle Olivier de Clisson, the evening will include readings from her latest collections, Gaza, un corps and Gaza encore. Through her writing, Berak explores themes of loss, memory, and endurance, offering a literary account shaped by both personal engagement and professional experience. Her work presents Gaza not only as a place of devastation, but also as a space of lived experience and emotional depth.

Drawing on her background as a former diplomat, including postings in Oman, Tanzania, and several years as cultural adviser at the French embassy in Jerusalem, Berak is also expected to engage in a discussion on current developments in the Middle East. Her testimony reflects a longstanding connection to Gaza, which she conveys through both political awareness and personal attachment.

The event, open to the public with voluntary contribution, forms part of a broader effort by local organisers to create spaces for cultural expression and dialogue on Gaza, at a time when artistic voices continue to document and respond to the realities of the genocidal war.
