Youth-Led Flotilla Sets Sail from Marseille in Solidarity with Gaza

In the northern districts of Marseille, a hundred young activists have been preparing nineteen sailing vessels for a flotilla set to depart on Saturday, 4 April. The initiative, dubbed Thousand Madleens to Gaza, transforms rusting port warehouses into bustling hubs of activity, as volunteers clean, organise, and ready the boats for the journey.

Each vessel, measuring around ten metres, will carry six to eight people, their masts clanging constantly in the mistral wind. The activists describe the mission as a gesture of solidarity and defiance, determined not to let injustice dominate. Their efforts reflect a generation committed to taking tangible action in response to ongoing humanitarian crises.

For those involved, the flotilla is more than a voyage; it is a statement of engagement, a refusal to remain passive in the face of suffering, and a call for broader awareness and support for affected communities.
