A fleet of solidarity vessels has departed from Marseille, France, aiming to deliver humanitarian aid and medical supplies to Gaza. This maritime campaign, organised under the Global Sumud Flotilla 2026 spring initiative, marks the latest civilian effort to draw attention to the dire humanitarian situation in the territory amid the ongoing genocidal war. Around 20 boats are initially participating, with plans for expansion to dozens of vessels and hundreds of international participants.
The flotilla is scheduled to converge at an international rendezvous point before proceeding toward Gaza. Organisers emphasise that the mission is non-violent, seeking to highlight the effects of prolonged restrictions on the territory, which have left residents with acute shortages of essential resources. Previous missions since October 2023, including those in 2024 and 2025, faced interceptions at sea, reflecting the substantial obstacles such operations encounter.
The initiative forms part of a broader wave of international solidarity with Gaza, as human rights and humanitarian groups continue to urge the lifting of the blockade and the unobstructed delivery of aid. Activists warn that without sustained action, the humanitarian crisis in the region will worsen, deepening the suffering of civilians trapped in the densely populated coastal enclave.
