A documentary capturing the daily realities of journalists reporting from Gaza has been awarded the Grand Prize at the 33rd Figra Festival in Douai, France. Inside Gaza, directed by Hélène Lam Trong, follows a team of AFP journalists navigating the challenges of covering the territory during the ongoing genocidal war, after international media access became severely restricted following 7 October 2025.
The 76-minute film, co-produced by Arte France, RTBF, and FACTSTORY, highlights the pressures, dangers, and ethical dilemmas faced by reporters in a conflict zone. By providing a close-up on four journalists and their collaborators, the documentary conveys the extreme difficulty of reporting in Gaza under siege, while also earning the festival’s Public Prize for its compelling and accessible storytelling.
Other notable recognitions at Figra included Fragments of War by Solène Chalvon-Fioriti, which centres on women’s experiences across Gaza and the West Bank, and Gaza: Weapon of Hunger by Fanny Morel and Jérémie Paire, documenting famine affecting over half a million residents. The awards underscored the festival’s focus on human rights and the importance of documenting civilian realities during crises.
