Al-Kaileh renews its call on international community to protect Palestinian prisoners

The Minister of Health, Mai Al-Kaileh, on Wednesday renewed her call to the international community and international and humanitarian organizations to intervene and protect the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli prisons, especially the sick, in light of the outbreak of Coronavirus.

Al-Kaileh called on, in a press statement, to put pressure on the Israeli authorities to release sick and elderly prisoners and to oblige Israel to give the Coronavirus vaccine to them under the supervision of a neutral international committee.

The deterioration of the health condition of the Coronavirus infected prisoner, Basil Makhlouf Ajaj, 45, from Seida town in Tulkarm, requires urgent intervention to remedy the health situation of the Palestinian prisoners.

The persistence of Israel in its medical neglect against the prisoners, especially in light of the outbreak of the Coronavirus, is consider as a decision to slowly kill them.

“In light of the continued spread of Coronavirus epidemic in prisons, Israel takes the full responsibility for the lives of the prisoner Ajaj and his fellow prisoners, especially the sick,” Al-Kaileh added.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, 191 cases of Coronavirus have been recorded among the prisoners as the last of them was yesterday in Section 4 of Raymond Prison, which includes 90 prisoners, 43 of them are sick and at least four prisoners are over 60 years old, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club.
