Tensions Rise at Al-Aqsa Compound as Dozens Enter Under Armed Protection

A group of Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa compound in Jerusalem on Monday morning through the Mughrabi Gate, under close protection from Israeli forces. Local religious authorities reported that approximately 75 individuals moved through the courtyards during the visit.

Observers on site said the group carried out what were described as provocative tours, with some participants performing religious rituals in the eastern section of the compound. At the same time, access for Palestinian worshippers was further restricted, with police enforcing stringent entry measures, checking identification documents and temporarily holding them at the gates.

Alongside these developments, settler-affiliated organisations have launched an online petition seeking approval to display Israeli flags inside the compound during the event known as “Jerusalem Day”. The situation has prompted renewed calls for increased presence at the site, amid growing concern over measures perceived as challenging longstanding arrangements during an already tense period shaped by the ongoing genocidal war.
