200 Palestinian prisoners infected with Coronavirus since the start of the pandemic

The number of Palestinian prisoners infected with the coronavirus in the Israeli prisons increased on Thursday to 200 prisoners after 7 new prisoners tested positive in Raymond prison, said the Palestine Center for Prisoners Studies.

In a statement, a copy of which obtained by Safa, the center warned that the number of prisoners infected with Coronavirus is likely to increase in the coming hours or days, as dozens of the prisoners got contacted with the infected.

The center held the Israeli authorities fully responsible for the lives of the Palestinian prisoners in Raymond, pointing out that among them there are dozens of sick and elderly people saying that the authorities do not pay attention to their lives and safety after the spread of the virus.

"The occupation did not take preventive and safety measures in prisons to prevent the spread of the virus, or provide sterilization materials and masks for prisoners to maintain their safety," it highlighted.

Moreover, it confirmed that the Israeli authorities do not provide them the vaccine, with the aim of having the largest number of them infected, and posing a threat to their lives, in addition to the practices against them and medical negligence that led to the death of dozens of them inside prisons.

The center renewed the demand for international organizations, foremost of which is the World Health Organization, to urgently intervene and put pressure on Israel to ensure that the Coronavirus vaccine is available to prisoners before it is too late.
