Two activists linked to an international maritime initiative seeking to reach Gaza were removed from Israeli detention and sent to Greece and Egypt in the early hours of Sunday, according to sources within the organising committee. Saif Abu Keshk, a Palestinian-Spanish activist, and Thiago Ávila, a Brazilian environmental and human rights advocate, were reportedly transferred through Israeli immigration authorities following their detention during the interception of a previous flotilla attempt.

Both individuals have since spoken of being subjected to harsh treatment and systematic ill-treatment during their detention, describing conditions that fell far below internationally recognised standards of human dignity. Their accounts have further intensified criticism of the measures used to prevent maritime convoys from reaching Gaza, where restrictions imposed amid the ongoing genocidal war continue to draw international scrutiny.

Meanwhile, organisers of the broader maritime initiative confirmed that representatives from the coalition are currently meeting in Türkiye, with preparations continuing for what is expected to be a large coordinated departure involving around 70 vessels. Despite repeated warnings and interception threats, the organisers insist the fleet will proceed with its planned voyage towards Gaza in the coming days.

The initiative, composed of activists and civil society groups from multiple countries, aims to challenge the naval blockade and deliver humanitarian supplies directly to the territory. Supporters say the mission is intended to draw attention to the deepening humanitarian crisis faced by civilians in Gaza and to assert the role of international solidarity in responding to prolonged deprivation.
