The United Nations has warned that Israeli military operations and settler violence across the occupied West Bank have forcibly displaced around 40,000 Palestinians since the beginning of 2025, as attacks and demolitions continue to intensify across the territory.
Speaking at UN headquarters in New York, officials cited humanitarian data showing that repeated raids, home demolitions and attacks by armed settlers are continuing to push Palestinian families from their homes. According to the figures presented, dozens of Palestinians, including children, were displaced during the first week of May alone after Israeli demolition operations.
UN representatives also raised concerns over the growing frequency of settler attacks in several areas of the occupied West Bank, saying Palestinians and their property are increasingly being targeted under the protection of Israeli forces. Recent incidents included raids, arrests and attacks on homes and vehicles in cities and villages including Jenin, Nablus, Qalqilya and areas east of Ramallah.
Figures referenced during the briefing showed that more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank since October 2023, while nearly 12,000 others have been injured and around 22,000 detained, including in occupied East Jerusalem.
The latest warning comes amid continued expansion of Israeli settlements and infrastructure projects across occupied Palestinian territory. International bodies have repeatedly stated that the settlements are illegal under international law and have warned that ongoing expansion further fragments Palestinian land during the ongoing genocidal war.
