Hamas Military Spokesman Calls on Mediators to Act as Death Toll Rises in Gaza

The spokesman for Hamas’s armed wing has urged regional and international mediators to take stronger action to ensure Israel implements the terms of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, arguing that the continued killing of Palestinians has brought mediation efforts to a critical juncture.

In a televised address on Tuesday, Abu Obeida said the ongoing deaths of civilians and fighters in Gaza, together with what he described as Israel’s failure to uphold the ceasefire, had placed mediators before a “moment of truth”. He called on those involved in the negotiations to take a firmer stance and ensure that the agreement is fully enforced.

His remarks come as Gaza health authorities continue to report casualties despite the truce that came into effect in October 2025. Palestinian officials have repeatedly accused Israel of violating the ceasefire through continued military actions, while Israel says its operations are motivated by security considerations.

Abu Obeida also accused Israel of interpreting flexibility during negotiations as weakness and said the killing of senior Hamas figures would not change the movement’s direction. During the speech, he paid tribute to several commanders killed during what Palestinians and a growing number of legal experts, human rights organisations and states have described as a genocide in Gaza.

Addressing Palestinians in the territory, he said the movement remained committed to those enduring the consequences of the genocide and praised individuals and groups around the world who have expressed solidarity with Palestinians since the war began.
