Discussions held in Cairo between Palestinian factions have been described as constructive, with emerging agreement on a unified national stance regarding the implementation of the second phase of a US-backed framework proposed by Donald Trump for Gaza.
A senior representative of Hamas’ political bureau involved in the negotiations said the meetings with other Palestinian groups have taken place in a “positive and responsible” atmosphere. He added that engagement with mediators is ongoing with the aim of consolidating a collective position that could guide the next stage of the plan, while seeking to limit further deterioration amid Israel’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza.
The talks are reported to have made tangible progress, with participants stressing the need for Israel to halt what they describe as repeated violations in Gaza and to comply fully with its commitments under the proposed arrangements. Palestinian representatives say any future steps must ensure protection for civilians and prevent further escalation of the genocidal war.
