At least one Palestinian was killed and several others injured after an Israeli strike targeted a residential building in southern Gaza City on Thursday evening, according to local reports, as violence continues despite a declared ceasefire framework.
The home, located near al-Maghribi junction on al-Thalathini Street, sits in an area now densely packed with displaced families who have repeatedly fled bombardment during Israel’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza. Residents described scenes of destruction and panic as neighbours attempted to pull survivors from the rubble, while emergency crews struggled to reach the site due to damaged roads and debris.
Local sources say residential areas across Gaza have increasingly become overcrowded shelters, where multiple displaced families share single homes due to a lack of safe alternatives. These same areas, they say, have continued to come under fire even after evacuation designations and ceasefire announcements, deepening uncertainty for civilians across the enclave.
Health authorities in Gaza report that the total number of Palestinians killed since October 2023 has reached 72,991, with more than 173,000 injured. They warn that the toll is expected to rise further as many victims remain trapped under collapsed buildings amid the ongoing genocidal war.
