Hamas Accuses Israel of Breaching Gaza Ceasefire After New Military Advance

Hamas has accused Israel of committing a serious violation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement after Israeli forces reportedly pushed a newly designated military boundary further west in Gaza City, accompanied by shelling and renewed displacement of Palestinian civilians.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the move reflected Israel’s intention to expand its control over parts of the Gaza Strip during the ongoing genocidal war. He described the developments as a direct escalation that undermines efforts aimed at maintaining the truce and stabilising conditions for civilians already facing mass destruction and repeated forced displacement.

According to the statement, the Israeli military activity took place at dawn on Friday and coincided with ongoing negotiations in Cairo, where Palestinian factions were reportedly engaging positively with mediation efforts. Hamas argued that the latest developments demonstrated a lack of Israeli commitment to implementing the ceasefire agreement and risked collapsing the negotiation process altogether.

Qassem also criticised international mediators and guarantor states for failing to prevent what he described as another breach of the agreement, warning that continued military escalation could further deepen the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding across Gaza.
