SAFA- Gaza Civil Defense announced Sunday that it has resumed search and recovery efforts for the remains of Palestinians trapped beneath homes and buildings destroyed during the Israeli genocide, warning that severe shortages of heavy machinery continue to hinder the humanitarian effort.

The organization said its crews are working with limited resources, including one excavator, one bulldozer, and one truck provided with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). It said the available equipment remains far below what is needed given the scale of destruction across the Gaza Strip.

The second phase of the recovery project will continue for 800 working hours and cover Gaza, North Gaza, and Deir Al-Balah governorates. Crews will search 147 destroyed homes where the remains of 1,072 Palestinians killed are believed to remain trapped beneath the rubble.

Civil Defense noted that the first phase lasted more than 500 working hours and covered 54 homes and buildings. Crews recovered 333 bodies and the remains of 559 missing people believed to be trapped under the debris, while the remains of 226 victims have yet to be recovered.

The announcement was made at the site of a completely destroyed residential block where the Abu Sharia and Al-Hasayneh families lived, according to the organization. It stated the Israeli attack killed 308 Palestinians, including 44 children and 37 women, whose remains are still believed to be beneath the rubble.

Civil Defense said families of those missing continue to await the recovery of their relatives so they can be buried with dignity. It called on the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations to provide greater support, including heavy machinery and specialized equipment, to help reach destroyed sites and continue recovery efforts.

The organization said it will continue its humanitarian work despite limited resources, stressing that recovering and burying victims in accordance with humanitarian and religious principles cannot be delayed and requires urgent international support.
