SAFA- The United Nations has warned that Israel's ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip amount to war crimes under international law, citing the continued killing of civilians despite a ceasefire agreement.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan said Palestinians in Gaza continue to face life-threatening conditions, with no safe areas available nearly nine months after the ceasefire was declared.

"Nine months have passed since the ceasefire declaration, and Palestinians in Gaza continue to have no safe place," Al-Kheetan said.

According to UN figures, at least 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire agreement was reached in October 2025. Of those, 685 were killed since mid-April alone.

Al-Kheetan said the continued loss of civilian lives raises serious concerns over possible violations of international humanitarian law, including the commission of war crimes and other grave breaches.

He urged the international community to take immediate steps to ensure full compliance with the ceasefire, end ongoing Israeli violations, and hold those responsible accountable.

Figures released by Gaza's Health Ministry show that Israeli ceasefire violations have killed 1,168 Palestinians and injured 3,798 others since the agreement took effect.

The ceasefire was brokered to end Israel's genocidal war on Gaza, which began on October 8, 2023. Since then, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 173,000 wounded, while around 90 percent of the Strip's civilian infrastructure has been destroyed.
