SAFA- Two Palestinian women were forced to give birth inside separate vehicles after Israeli military closures around the occupied West Bank city of Nablus prevented them from reaching hospitals in time, highlighting the growing humanitarian consequences of movement restrictions imposed on Palestinians.

Physicians for Human Rights said on Sunday that the women were unable to access medical facilities because Israeli forces continued to seal checkpoints surrounding Nablus and tightened restrictions on movement.

The organization noted that road closures, military checkpoints, and limits on Palestinian movement significantly delayed the women's access to emergency medical care. As a result, both deliveries took place inside vehicles under difficult and exceptional conditions, without medical supervision in a hospital.

The incidents, according to the organization, highlight the serious humanitarian consequences of travel restrictions. It warned that continued obstruction of patients, particularly pregnant women, from reaching healthcare facilities poses a direct threat to their lives and safety.

It stressed that freedom of movement and access to healthcare are fundamental rights protected under international law and international conventions. The organization called for an end to measures that prevent Palestinians from reaching hospitals and medical centers, holding the Israeli authorities fully responsible for the risks civilians face as a result of ongoing checkpoint closures and movement restrictions.

Israeli occupation forces, meanwhile, intensified military actions at checkpoints around the city on Sunday in an effort to hinder the work of ambulance crews throughout the Nablus Governorate. The restrictions have hindered ambulance movement and delayed access to patients and the injured, amid growing warnings over the humanitarian and public health consequences of the ongoing closures.
