SAFA – Mahmoud Khalaf, a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front, said that the Israeli occupation continues its genocide in the Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire agreement reached in October last year and the recent agreement on the "roadmap" based on U.S. President Donald Trump's plan.

In a statement to Felesteen newspaper on Monday, Khalaf said the continued Israeli bombardment and targeted killings demonstrate that the Israeli government has no intention of implementing the agreements reached. He added that the ongoing escalation represents a clear violation of efforts aimed at ending the aggression and securing a comprehensive ceasefire.

He stressed the need for mediators to exert genuine pressure on the Israeli occupation to compel it to comply with the agreement and begin implementing the roadmap's successive phases in a manner that ends the aggression, halts the targeted killings, and brings an end to the instability imposed on the Gaza Strip by the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.

Khalaf also emphasized the responsibility of the United States and international mediators to ensure that the Israeli occupation implements the announced understandings and refrains from further violations of the ceasefire agreement.

His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the "Peace Council" had reached an agreement to be implemented in phases, including the gradual withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces and their replacement by an international stabilization force, alongside the establishment of a new Palestinian police force.

Despite these developments, the Israeli occupation has continued its military operations. Over the past 24 hours, 19 Palestinians have been killed and dozens injured, while three homes and residential apartments were destroyed in more than ten airstrikes targeting various areas across the Gaza Strip.

Since the ceasefire took effect in October 2023, Gaza's Ministry of Health says that more than 1,030 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds more injured as a result of ongoing Israeli violations, amid continued Palestinian and international calls to halt the genocide and ensure the implementation of the agreed commitments.
